Leaving from the Bahamas on January 19th

I will be flying out of Chicago on Jaunary 18th, and arriving in the Bahamas in the evening.  I will be staying at Atlantis for the night, and then boarding the SAS Voyager between 10 am to 12 pm.  There is a time for friends and family to go aboard and see our rooms and facilities from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, and then we will be on our way!  With our first stop in Puerto Rico.

This is the Atlantis at the Bahamas

I arrived!

Arriving in the Bahamas

I arrived in the Bahamas on Wednesday around 6:00 pm… only one hour behind schedule!  While I was waiting for my plane, I met up with 7 other Semester at Sea (SAS) kids, so we all sat together and chatted about our upcoming journey.  We were all able to share taxis’ back to the hotel.  The airport was about 30 minutes away from the hotel, the Atlantis.  As we were driving through the Bahamas, I started getting more and more excited about what was about to happen!  I think up until this time, it just hasn’t hit me yet that this whole journey is really going to happen at all.  I got so see the ship as we past the dock heading for the Atlantis.  The ship is smaller than the other cruises docked her, but still a big ship.  We next crossed over the bridge that lead into the Atlantis village, there is so much here!

This hotel is gorgeous, and so huge!  It must have taken me 15 minutes just to walk to the tower that I was staying in.  My roommate (for the night) was already here when I arrived.   We next started out search for some dinner, as neither of us had eaten much of anything all day.  That was an adventure in itself!  We wanted to stay at the hotel to eat, since neither of us know our way around town… but all of the restaurants were a little more expensive than we thought!  The “cheap” ones started at $35 a person!  So, we went to this little stand that was selling sandwiches… and even those were more than we were expecting!  We also found a lot of other Semester at Sea (SAS) kids hanging out there.

I have met so many other SAS kids, it’s amazing!  This hotel is loaded, every turn, there is another group!  I got a game of rummy and golf going before finally calling it a night.  It was a good day, even though saying goodbye was really hard. I know tomorrow is going to be a crazy day, 700 collage students, plus faculty, staff and grandparents all loading the ship between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm…. My boarding time is 10:00 am.  I’m ready for my once in a life time adventure! I hope you’re ready too!!

Love Laura
